Hi!
Welcome to Square Peg Farm.
My name is Cathi Newlin. I live in Angels Camp, California, nestled in the Sierra foothills - home of the Jumping Frog Jubilee, along with my husband Jeff, our dogs, cats, horses and of course, our goats.

In 1995, I took possession of a newborn nubian doeling who was near death. Her mother's owner (my next door neighbor) worked 2 jobs and knew she would not be able to give the little thing the time and attention she needed to survive, and gave her to me - probably assuming she would be dead in a few hours. The little doe did survive, despite my never having cared for a goat before in my life.Trudy, as she was now called, owed her survival in good part to the enthusiastic efforts of our boxer Rutabaga. |

That was the beginning of our goat herd. Trudy died in 2005, but we continue to see her in the generations of her offspring we still have.
We don't really breed our goats for profit - usually its just to enjoy the milk or improve the herd. We are looking to have lots of kids this year however, thanks to an enterprising buck, who managed to unlatch the gate on the bucks' pen.
![]() | Our herd consists mainly of Trudy's daughters and granddaughters, although in 2003 we were offered a doe from a breeder whose herd I greatly admired. However, for the most part we maintain a very small, closed herd.
Our goats are not registered, as we do not show and mainly keep them for our own enjoyment. However, we may work towards registerably animals sometime in the future. |
